Rivera Has “No Doubt” Cam Will Be Ready For Season Opener

Panthers QB Expected To Start Against Rams In Week 1

Things continue to look good as the Panthers approach their regular season opener, at least when it comes the starting quarterback and his sprained left foot.

Forget ‘cautiously optimistic.’ Ron Rivera said there is no doubt in his mind that Cam Newton will be ready to start in the Panthers Week 1 game against the Rams.

“No, there is no doubt in my mind,” Rivera said. “He’s done exactly what he’s needed to. We’re at the point now where it’s just a matter of time once we start our prep for the Rams that he’s back on the field.”

For the second straight day, Newton was on the practice field, working on the side with trainers with an increased workload.

The Panthers head coach was happy to see the progress. “He’s made good strides and we’re pretty excited about it, you know, because we’ll have a couple of extra days of practice and get ready for the Rams as well.”

On Thursday night, Carolina will host Pittsburgh in the preseason finale.
