New Lead in Search for Local Family’s Missing, Possibly Stolen, Dog

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – It’s been 100 days since Espresso the French bull dog disappeared out of her front yard in northwest Charlotte.

Now, there’s been a possible sighting.

Sonja Drury says she got a tip from a woman who spotted a dog that looked just like Espresso at the Petsmart in Hendersonville about two weeks ago. That’s about an hour and a half away from Charlotte. The person also told the tipster that her dog was purchased in Charlotte. Drury has been working with police to find out more.

She tells WCCB, “It’s a felony to steal a dog. And if we’re looking for a stolen dog, then we need to be able to look at any leads, or eliminate (leads). I’ve been putting my focus on Hendersonville. It may be in the wrong place, but we’ll never know until I see that video.”

There are surveillance cameras inside that Petsmart store. A Petsmart corporate spokeswoman tells WCCB she will have more information for us on Thursday.

There is a $1,500 cash reward, no questions asked, for the safe return of Espresso. If you have information that can help, call 980-722-1776.
