Sunshine Now, Dorian Later
Gusty winds could come into play here as soon as Wednesday afternoon.
Hope you all had a lovely holiday weekend! The 90s return as we go back to work today. Expect mostly sunny skies today and minimal rain chances throughout the WCCB viewing area until late Wednesday. Although it will be beautiful through Wednesday afternoon, the humidity will definitely be a factor, as heat index values could rise into the mid-90s. Be sure to stay hydrated when outside for the next couple of days. A big shift in our quiet pattern comes as Dorian skirts up the coast.
DORIAN UPDATE: As of the latest update, Hurricane Dorian has weakened further and is now a Category 2 storm with a maximum wind speed of 110 mph. That being said, Dorian is still extremely dangerous and has a swath of sustained tropical storm-force winds (39+ mph) over 300 miles in diameter. Dorian has finally begun moving to the north and should pick up the pace over the next several days as it skirts the East Coast. While the WCCB viewing area won’t see any direct impacts, those of us east of I-77 should still monitor this storm for any changes.
IMPACT FORECAST: Although the center of the storm will be hundreds of miles away from Charlotte, we will still feel some effects from Dorian. Those of us in the mountains and the Foothills should remain dry, although some occasional gusty winds could filter in. The western Piedmont should remain mainly scot-free as well, although a light gusty shower or two isn’t completely out of the question. Charlotte itself could see some rain and gusts up to 35 mph, which will be strong enough to knock down tree branches and limbs, along with small, unstable trees themselves. East of I-77, particularly Anson, Richmond, and Chesterfield counties, could see up to 1-2″ of rain with locally higher totals. Tropical storm-force gusts could also be an issue here, especially if Dorian takes a more westward track. Isolated power outages could definitely occur in the eastern fringes of the WCCB viewing area. Stay weather-wise and keep it here at WCCB as Dorian progresses through its journey up the coast.
