Traffic Accident Leads To Deadly Shooting In North Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The CMPD is investigating after a traffic accident led to a deadly shooting in north Charlotte Wednesday night.

CMPD officers responded to a crash on West Sugar Creek Road near North Tryon Street at about 8:45 p.m., on Wednesday.

Arriving officers found the two vehicles involved in the accident in a parking lot, as well as a man who had been shot.   The victim, identified as 37-year-old Richard Clements, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say a verbal altercation occurred after Clements and the suspect were involved in the crash.  According to detectives Clements got out of his car and the suspect shot him.

The suspect stayed at the scene and rendered aid to the victim.

The CMPD has not filed any charges at this time, but the investigation is ongoing.
