CMPD Gives “All Clear” After Suspicious Item Found At CLT Airport

CHARLOTTE, NC — Officials at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport say the “all clear” has been given following a “suspicious item” found at baggage claim Monday afternoon.

CMPD was reportedly called to investigate the item, which resulted in an evacuation of the baggage claim area. CLT Airport posted on Twitter around 3:38pm saying lower level traffic was being rerouted to the upper level.

Viewer photos showed travelers being evacuated out of the area, and CMPD officers armed with assault rifles securing the site.

The all clear was issued around 5pm. Officials have not said what the item was or where it came from.

Travelers are being allowed back into the baggage claim area but should expect some delays in retrieving their luggage. CLT Airport says airlines are working “as quickly as possible” to connect passengers with their bags.
