Store Manager And Suspect Injured In Shootout During Attempted Armed Robbery

CHARLOTTE, NC — The manager of a 7-Eleven store in southeast Charlotte is recovering after being shot during an attempted armed robbery early Monday morning.

The robbery happened around 3:04am at the store on Monroe Road near North Sharon Amity Road.

According to investigators, the manager was shot during the attempted robbery and returned fire at the suspect. The suspect, identified as 22-year-old James Murray, was also hit.

Police say K-9 units found Murray injured a short distance from the store.

He and the victim were transported with serious injuries to nearby hospitals for treatment. There were no other injuries reported.

Once released from the hospital, CMPD says Murray will be charged with Attempted Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

According to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office Jail website, Murray has been arrested multiple times since 2016 on charges of Breaking and or Entering and Larceny After Breaking and Entering.
