Deputies Investigating After Burke County Infant Dies

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — An investigation is underway after an infant from Burke County died.  Deputies with the Burke County Sheriff’s Office say they responded to Carolina Health Care System – Blue Ridge on Wednesday, September 4th in reference to the report of an unresponsive 2-month-old that was taken to the hospital by his parents.

Deputies say the infant was transferred to Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte where he passed away on September 9th.  A criminal investigation was launched based on reports from the Emergency Department staff and the medical staff at Levine, according to a news release.  The Department of Social Services is also investigating.

No criminal charges have been filed at this time.  Officials say the investigation is ongoing and will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office upon completion.
