CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Better.com, a digital mortgage lender, has opened an office in South End, Charlotte and says it plans to hire 1000 employees in the next five years.
The fintech company partnered with Ally Financial earlier this year, which led to the opening of a Charlotte office. Ally Home was able to integrate the digital platform of Better.com to create a completely digital mortgage process. Loan officers from Ally Home and Better.com will work out of the The RailYard office in South End.
The company expects to hire 100 people by the end of 2019 with a goal of hiring 1,000 employees over the next five years.
“Opening a new office in Charlotte will help us tap into the city’s incredibly talented workforce,” said Vishal Garg, CEO and founder of Better.com. “As a rapidly growing startup, we see an entrepreneurial hunger and spirit in the city of Charlotte that is akin to what we used to see in places like downtown Manhattan in the 1980s and Silicon Valley in the 1990s. We’re thrilled to have chosen Charlotte as we enter the next stage of our company’s growth.”
Charlotte boasts the second-largest financial services center in the world, and has become a leading destination for financial/technical companies looking to begin or expand their operations.
“Charlotte is a city built on innovation and commerce, with a strong educational foundation that provides optimal opportunities for fintech startups like Better.com,” said Mayor Vi Lyles. “We welcome Better.com and thank them for helping us to grow into the technology-based city we want to be.”
The City of Charlotte also collaborated with Ally Financial and Carolina FinTech Hub to facilitate the deal.
