CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police say they arrested a man who broke into a dozen vehicles in south Charlotte between May and June.
During the course of the investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department say they developed probable cause to charge Joshua Peterson in the case and 38 warrants were issued for his arrest.
Officials say Peterson was located by probation officers in Chattanooga, Tennessee and taken into custody on September 11th. He was charged with 13 counts of breaking and entering into a motor vehicle, two counts of felony larceny, seven counts of misdemeanor larceny, possession of stolen goods, 13 counts of financial transaction card theft, one count of financial transaction card fraud (felony) and one count of financial transaction card fraud (misdemeanor).
Police say the first six cases happened during the overnight hours of May 13th and all took place within approximately a half mile from each other:
- The victim reported that his two vehicles, a 2005 Volvo XC70 and a 2008 Volvo XC90, were broken into while they were parked in his driveway located on Stonebriar Drive. The suspect stolen items from both unlocked vehicles.
- The victim reported that his unlocked 2012 GMC Sierra Truck was broken into while parked on Stonebriar Drive. Multiple credit cards comprised of some of the items stolen, and these cards were fraudulently used for three transactions at a local Walmart store.
- The victim reported that his 2008 Ford Explorer, which was parked at a residence on Stonebriar Drive, was broken into and items were stolen.
- The victim reported that her 2011 Kia Sorrento had been broken into while parked at her residence on Jordan Rae Lane.
- The victim reported that his 2011 BMW X5 had been broken into while it was parked in the driveway of his residence located on Hatton Court, and that items had been stolen from inside the vehicle.
- The victim reported that his 2019 Toyota Sienna had been broken into while it was parked at his residence on Meadow Run Lane, and an item was stolen from the vehicle during the break-in.
One break-in was reported during the overnight hours of May 21st:
- The victim reported that his 2006 Audi A6 Avant Quattro was broken into while it was parked at his residence on Ridgemore Drive. The victim advised that items were stolen from inside of the vehicle including a wallet containing multiple financial transactions cards and that one of these credit cards was later used at a QT Gas Station.
The next four cases were reported during the overnight hours of June 3rd:
- The victim reported that his 2011 FJ Cruiser was broken into while parked at his residence located on Ramblewood Lane. The items that were stolen included tennis equipment which was later sold by the suspect to a third-party using an online selling-app. This item was recovered during the investigation.
- The victim reported that her 2016 Arcura ILX was broken into while it was parked at her residence on Goneaway Road.
- The victims reported that their two vehicles, a 2012 Jeep Cherokee and a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban, were both broken into while they were parked at their residence located on Goneaway Road.
- The victim advised that his vehicle, a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse, was broken into while parked at his residence on Goneaway Road.
