Dispute Over Designer Belt Leads To Shooting In Southwest Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, NC — Police say a shooting late Sunday night in the Steele Creek area was the result of an ongoing dispute over a designer belt.
Police say they were called to a home on Hatton Cross Drive around 11:30pm when a woman fired multiple shots at several individuals who were throwing rocks through her windows.
While officers were on scene and investigating the incident, officials say a suspect fired multiple shots at officers standing near one of the marked CMPD patrol cars parked in the street. The officers took cover, according to CMPD, but did not return fire at the suspect who fled the scene in a vehicle.
Investigators say one home was hit during the shooting, and several spent shell casings were located near the intersection of Hatton Cross and Weatherstone Circle. No injuries were reported.
The suspects were later identified and taken into custody.
Jamari Young, 19, and Chris’Tavious Caldwell, 18, are both charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer and shooting into occupied property. Caldwell is additionally charged with felony conspiracy.
CMPD says the entire incident stemmed from an ongoing dispute over a designer belt.
