I-277 Improvements Continue This Week

CHARLOTTE, NC – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews have scheduled several closures this week as part of a $16.3 million project to improve the roadway and 22 bridges along Interstate 277.

Starting tonight, the ramp from I-277 inner to I-77 South (Exit 1B) will be closed each night from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. The closure will also be in place this weekend from Friday at 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 21.

Other nightly closures this week will include the ramp from U.S. 74 West to I-277 inner from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next day, and the South Church Street ramp to I-277 inner from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following day. The South Church Street closure will continue nightly through the weekend during those same hours.

All the work is weather permitting and subject to change. Detour information will be at DriveNC.gov under Mecklenburg County.

Drivers are reminded to slow down and use extra caution while going through the work zones and the detour routes. Paying extra attention to the road is for their own safety, as well as any passengers, occupants of other vehicles and the construction crews in the area.
