Family’s Basement Floods with Animal Blood

A slaughterhouse says inspectors are to blame after a neighbor’s home flooded with animal blood. This is unfolding in Des Moines, Iowa.

Five inches of animal blood soaked the home’s basement this month. The family has lived next to the meat locker for ten years, and haven’t had any problems, until now.

New owners purchased the company in April and have been dumping hog and cattle remains down a floor drain that is connected to the neighbor’s pipes. The slaughterhouse says they were just following the procedures of the previous owner, and that inspectors told them they were OK to operate.

The meat factory has now closed off the pipe, and says they’re working with insurance to reimburse the family.

So what do you think? Should the meat factory face some type of punishment, regardless?
