CMPD: Possible Robbery Suspect Hit By Vehicle While Running From Officers

CHARLOTTE, NC — A possible robbery suspect was hospitalized with life threatening injuries after authorities say he was hit by a car while running from officers in southwest Charlotte.

The incident happened around 12:20am on Friday near the Gas-N-Go on Carowinds Boulevard.

Police say they were responding to a breaking and entering call at the store when they located a possible suspect and attempted to stop him. The man reportedly took off on foot and was attempting to cross South Tryon Street when he was hit by a 2016 BMW X3.

The area was not lit, officers say, and the road was not marked for pedestrian crossing.

The suspect was transported by Medic with life threatening injuries.

Police say the driver of the BMW was screened for impairment, which was not found, and released. No charges were filed against the driver.

Detectives are still investigating the Gas-N-Go break-in after they say a window on the front door was found to be broken.

No charges have been filed at this time however.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
