Pedestrian Hit And Killed While Walking On Brookshire Freeway In Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The CMPD is investigating after a man was hit by a vehicle and killed while walking on Brookshire Freeway Tuesday night.

According to the CMPD, a white man, who has not yet been identified, was walking norhtwest on Brookshire Freeway, between Graham Street and I-77, at about 8:50 p.m. on Tuesday, when he was hit by Kia Sorento.  The Kia Sorento was then hit from behind by a Nissan Maxima.

The pedestrian was taken to Atrium Health’s Carolina Medical Center where he died at 9:19 p.m.

Investigators say the driver of the Kia slammed on her brakes but was unable to avoid the pedestrian, who was walking in her lane of travel.   Both drivers and the passenger who was riding in the Kia remained at the scene.

Police say the man was walking with his back to traffic, in a poorly lit portion of Brookshire Freeway that is not marked or controlled for pedestrian crossing.

The posted speed in the area of the incident is 50 miles per hour.
