Rookie Shines As Hornets Win Season Opener
Opening Night Was A Record Setting Night For Hornets
Opening Night was a success in Buzz City as the Hornets beat the Bulls 126-125. WCCB Charlotte’s Kelli Bartik has the latest from the Hive.
Let’s face it. No one is expecting much from the new-look Hornets this season. Don’t tell them that.
Live by the three, die by the three – a common phrase when it comes to basketball – the Hornets were living large as they took the court in front of fans at the Spectrum Center.
Rookie P.J. Washington, who started in the season opener against the Bulls, did not disappoint. Charlotte’s first round draft pick set a NBA record with seven 3-pointers, the most by any player in his NBA debut. Washington hit five of them in the first half.
As a team, the Hornets shot a blistering 23-of-44 from three-point range, setting an NBA record for most triples in a season-opener and an overall single-game franchise record.
They will look for win number two on Friday night when they host the Minnesota Timberwolves.
