Local Teacher Assistant Fired, Charged With Assault On A Child

STATESVILLE, N.C. – An elementary school teacher assistant has been fired from her job at East Iredell Elementary school, and charged with one count of misdemeanor assault on a child under 12.

The Iredell-Statesville School District suspended Genetta Dobbins with pay on Thursday, October 24, 2019, pending an investigation. Statesville Police tell WCCB that Dobbins’ suspension was the result of an “interaction” between Dobbins and an elementary student during the school day.

On October 25, 2019, the district fired Dobbins. Dobbins had been employed with the Iredell-Statesville School District since September 9, 2019. This is a developing story. As we get more information into the newsroom, we will update this report.
