CMPD: 4 Officers Injured After 2 Patrol Vehicles Collide While Responding To Call

CHARLOTTE, NC — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says four officers were injured late Friday night when two police SUVs collided while responding to a call in northwest Charlotte.

The accident happened just after 11pm on Beatties Ford Road just prior to Holly Street.

Officials say two marked police SUVs were traveling north with blue lights and sirens activated when the lead unit heard shots being fired nearby and started to make a U-turn.

The second police SUV then collided with the driver’s side of the lead vehicle, which resulted in extensive damage to both SUVs.

CMPD says each vehicle was occupied by two officers.

Officers Michael Petrillo, Micha Edmunds, Shon Sheffield and Michael Mosher were taken to Atrium Health’s CMC with serious injuries and later released.

No citizens were involved or injured during this incident.

The accident remains under investigation.
