CMPD Investigating After Reported Shooting At NE Charlotte Church

CHARLOTTE, NC — Reports of shots being fired inside a northeast Charlotte church Sunday night sparked panic among those in attendance.

The incident happened around 8:30pm at Freedom House Church on Salome Church Road. An off-duty CMPD officer was reportedly working at the church’s weekly teen service when he responded to a disturbance in the parking lot area.

While there, CMPD says the officer heard gunshots nearby and then received information that shots were also being fired inside the church.

Additional officers were called to the scene.

Following an investigation, police say no shots were fired inside the church and no one was injured. All of the teens attending the service were safely reunited with their families.

CMPD says they will continue to patrol the area for any suspicious activity.
