CMPD Animal Care & Control Puts A New Spin On Trick-Or-Treating

CHARLOTTE, NC — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Animal Care & Control Division (AC&C) is putting a new spin on trick-or-treating this year! AC&C is getting into the Halloween spirit by asking for your help to promote animal adoptions this Halloween.

It’s simple, help promote AC&C animals who are in search for their forever home, when you hand out your Halloween candy!

According to the National Retail Federation’s annual survey, 69% of Americans say they will hand out candy. What a great way for the Charlotte Community to be able to help promote cute animals in adorable costumes, who are looking for their forever homes. This is a great way for children to participate as well.

AC&C’s Public Information Specialist, Melissa Knicely says “this idea was presented by Leah Henrichsen, who also helped AC&C with a successful t-shirt fundraising campaign earlier this year. We thought the idea was genius and it uses more of a grassroots approach which we have found can be very effective and provides the community with a way to help if they can’t adopt or volunteer.”

AC&C has made it very easy.

  1. Go to our website to print the adoption sheets (there are 6 pets on 1 sheet)
  2. Cut them out.
  3. Tape them to your candy.
  4. Hand out the candy to your trick-or-treaters.
  5. Children get their treats and the animals get a chance at finding a new home!
