Man Charged With Murder After Deadly I-85 Hit And Run Incident

CHARLOTTE, NC — CMPD has charged a suspect in connection to a deadly hit and run incident that occurred early Friday morning on October 4th.

Jeremy Davis, 30, has been arrested and charged with the death of Willie Nathaniel Corry, Jr., 48, which took place along I-85 around 1:45am.

Troopers with the NC State Highway Patrol say Corry was inside a 7-Eleven on West Sugar Creek Road off of I-85 when Davis attempted to leave in a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis.

Corry had reportedly been in the vehicle prior to entering the store, troopers say, but it is unclear whether the two men were together.

Seeing Davis trying to back out of the parking lot, troopers say Corry ran back out of the store and grabbed onto the passenger door handle trying to re-enter the vehicle.

Davis reportedly drove out of the parking lot with Corry still holding onto the door and proceeded to enter the northbound lanes on I-85. Corry then lost his hold of the vehicle and suffered life threatening injuries.

He died from before MEDIC could arrive.

Troopers say Davis quickly abandoned the vehicle down an embankment between the I-85 connector and Reagan Drive.

Following an investigation into the incident, warrants were issued on Davis and he was arrested Tuesday. He is charged with Murder and Felony Hit-and-Run.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
