One Dead After Car Collides With Median, Logging Truck In Iredell County

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident after a car collided with a tractor-trailer in Iredell County Wednesday morning.

According to the NCSHP, the accident happened at about 8:50 a.m., on I-77 North near mile-marker 52.

Witnesses say a 2005 Toyota Scion driven by 27-year-old Henry Rodriguez was headed north in the left lane and driving erratically before running off the road and hitting the median guardrail.  The Toyota then re-entered the highway and ran into a 1997 International tractor-trailer logging truck in the right lane.

Both vehicles ran off the road to the right where the tractor trailer lost part of its load.

Henry Rodriguez died at the scene.  The driver of the logging trick, 62-year-old James Bodford, was not injured.  Bodford was driving for Shaver Wood Products out of Cleveland, North Carolina.

Authorities say both drivers were wearing seatbelts and their is no indication of impairment for either driver.
