The incident happened around 8pm on Valeview Lane. CMPD says 27-year-old Emery Alexander Springs, Jr. was walking in the roadway when he was struck by a Hyundai Elantra.

Springs was transported to Atrium Health’s CMC with life threatening injuries.

A woman was also walking with the victim at the time of the incident, but was not injured.

Springs was reportedly wearing dark colored clothing at the time of the accident. The area was also dark due to a lack of street lights, officials say, and it was raining.
