School District Administrator Suspended Over Flasher Costume
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – 46-year-old Mary Coker is the Broward County School District’s Director of Purchasing. As of Tuesday night, she’s been suspended for seven days. The story of her Halloween flasher costume hit the Miami news last month, prompting the school superintendent to file a complaint last week with the school board.
The superintendent recommended that Coker be demoted and take a $44,000 pay cut for wearing the costume. Coker supposedly “flashed” children, staff and colleagues. She was wearing a black coat and hat, with a body stocking on underneath with fake nipples and fake pubic hair.
After she saw people’s reactions at the party, she asked people to get rid of their pictures.
Tuesday night, the board voted to suspend her, not demote her or give her a pay cut. Our question of the night: was the “flasher” costume just a joke, or a bad judgment call?
