CMPD Animal Care & Control Dog Kennel Repairs Creates Urgency For Dog Adoptions And Foster Homes

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — CMPD Animal Care & Control Division (AC&C) is asking for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Community’s help with dog adoptions, temporary foster homes and staycations. Beginning Monday, February 17, phase two of the construction projects that have been ongoing since last Summer will begin. The first phase which started last July was to install new HVAC in the dog kennels and replace ceramic blocks in the dog kennels.

The second phase, starting Monday, is to repair the dog kennel floors. During this time various sections of kennels in stray dog and adoption kennels will need to be empty. On Monday, 42 kennels will need to remain empty for 3 weeks. There will be 4 phases to this project, closing different sections as they are being worked on. This creates a huge space crunch for dogs and an urgent need for adoptions and temporary foster homes.

AC&C is currently working with rescue groups and North Carolina Animal Federation shelter partners to transfer some dogs to their care to help with space concerns. We are also working with local boarding kennels and dog daycares that have agreed to help out as well.

How the Charlotte Community can help:

1 – If you have been considering adopting a dog, there is not a better time to rescue a dog. An adoption promotion called “Under Construction: Phase 2 will start on Saturday, February 15 and all adoptions will be waived in favor of a financial donation of the adopter’s choice to support AC&C’s shelter programs.
Adoptions include: Spay/Neuter Surgery, Microchip and up-to-date vaccines.

2 – Choose a dog to take home as a temporary foster.

3 – Help save kennel space by taking home a Staycation dog.

4 – Please consider sharing this urgent need on social media, with your work group, friends, family, neighbors etc.
