South Carolina Community Pays Respects To 6-year-old Girl Found Dead
CAYCE, SOUTH CAROLINA — A memorial for a 6-year-old girl found dead in Cayce, South Carolina continues to grow as the community waits for answers surrounding her tragic death.
Faye Swetlik, a first grader, vanished while playing outside her home Monday. She was found dead Thursday. Saturday, multiple police agencies escorted her body to a funeral home following an autopsy as dozens of people lined the streets to pay their respects. Tom Wilson was among them. He said he couldn’t stay away.
“I didn’t know her, but I felt like I did. My wife and I have 8 grandchildren, and one on the way. I just can’t imagine what they must be going through the pain they feel,” says Tom Wilson, a Lexington County resident.
Police searched for nearly 72 hours for Faye before her body was found in the woods near her home. Saturday morning, people gathered for a candlelight vigil to remember the little girl who touched so many lives. Police have linked Faye’s death to a neighbor, 30 year old Coty Taylor. His body was also found by police Thursday. Investigators have not yet released Faye’s cause of death, but the autopsy results are expected to be released Tuesday.
