Charlotte Fathers Unite to Host 3rd Annual Black History Month Celebration

Media personality Ryan Jor El to recognize eight honorees at Black Fathers Rock! program

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Black Fathers Rock! – a night of celebration for fathers who are trailblazers in the community – will take place in Uptown Charlotte at Fin & Fino on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at 4 p.m. Media personality, author and Charlotte champion Ryan Jor El, is the creator of Black Fathers Rock!

Ryan seeks to change the narrative that all black fathers are absent. Black Fathers Rock! will highlight stories of amazing fathers who exist in the Charlotte community as well as provide resources for fathers in need of guidance.

Some of this year’s honorees include: General Counsel and Activist Toussaint Romain, Esq., Executive Director of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Community Relations Committee Willie Ratchford, as well as community leader and Inspire the Fire CEO Dennis Reed, Jr. Charlotte Media Personality and UNCC Top 10 Under 10 award recipient Ohavia Phillips, community leader and philanthropist Diamond Nurse and influencer Lorri Lofton will serve as some of the presenters for the evening.

In conjunction with our corporate sponsors – Prosperity Wealth Group and Red Classic – and this year’s nonprofit partner – the Kappa Foundation of Charlotte – the 60-minute awards ceremony will feature the presentation of eight honorees and an entertainment performance. Ryan Jor El will serve as the host for the evening.

“Growing up without a father posed many challenges, but let me know that I never wanted my children to be in that predicament,” says Ryan. “Black Fathers Rock spawned from the need to change the narrative of what it means to be a black father in today’s society while dispelling the notion that all of us are absent.”
