On Monday, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos pledged $10 billion to combat climate change, which he described as the “biggest threat to our planet.”
The money will be contributed to the Bezos earth fund, according to Bezos, who made the announcement in an Instagram post.
Some Amazon employees, while appreciative of the gesture, have criticized Bezos and the company for it’s contribution to the current climate situation.
In a response statement on Twitter, Amazon Employees For Climate Justice said, “We applaud Jeff Bezos’ philanthropy, but one hand cannot give what the other is taking away.”
Amazon workers signed an open letter to Bezos and Amazon’s Board of Directors, last April, asking them to stop doing business with oil and gs companies and stop donations to lawmakers who deny climate change.
Nearly 1,700 workers took part of the global climate walkout on September 20th, 2019.
Forbes ranks Bezos as the richest person in the world with a net worth of $126.9 billion.
