Man, Girlfriend Charged In Northwest Charlotte Hit-And-Run That Left 17-Year-Old Dead

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 17-year-old girl is dead and two people have been arrested following a hit-and-run accident in northwest Charlotte Monday morning.

According to the CMPD, at about 10:39 a.m. on Monday, officers responded to a crash on Old Plank Road at the intersection of Almora Road.

Police say 17-year-old Maniche Wilson was operating a 2002 Honda Accord on Almora Road, where she was waiting to turn left onto Old Plank Road, when she pulled into the path of 48-year-old Michael Himes, who was speeding north on Old Plank Road in a 2014 Ford F-150 Raptor.

Investigators say the two vehicles collided in the intersection and crossed into the opposite lane of travel until they stopped on the grass shoulder of Old Plank Road.

A witness, who stopped to help, saw Himes get out of the Ford Raptor and get into a black Toyota 4-Runner, driven by a white female, which sped away.

Police arrived and found Wilson trapped inside the Honda and unresponsive.  Medic responded and pronounced Wilson dead at the scene.

Detectives and officers located the Toyota 4-Runner and it’s owner, 39-year-old Lauren Kerr, at a nearby address.  Police found Himes at his home address and took him to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for an interview.

Following the interview, Himes was charged with Driving While Impaired, Felony Death by Vehicle, Involuntary Manslaughter, Felony Hit & Run, and Reckless Driving.  Kerr, who is Himes’ girlfriend, was also arrested for her involvement and charged with Aid and Abet Felony Hit and Run.

The case is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Oberer at (704) 432-2169 or Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600.
