CHARLOTTE, N.C. — CMPD has charged a suspect for their involvement in two bank robberies after a vehicle pursuit.
Officers responded to a robbery at Fifth Third Bank in Northwest Charlotte around 11:52 a.m. on February 18. During the robbery the suspect entered the bank and demanded money from the teller by threatening with a gun.
Witnesses on the scene at the time stated that the suspect fled in a white Nissan Rogue. Soon after officers were able to locate a vehicle fitting the description nearby.
CMPD then attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the driver refused to stop and a pursuit began.
The pursuit ended after the vehicle exited I-85 at Billy Graham Highway. The driver was detained without incident – there was no vehicle collisions and no one was injured.
The suspect was then identified as 58-year-old Alvin James Pierce. Pierce was then interviewed and charged with Armed Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon according to CMPD.
During the investigation police also linked Pierce to an additional robbery that happened on January 7. The robbery took place at a Fifth Third bank in South Charlotte.
A warrant for robbery with a dangerous weapon was then issued for Pierce’s arrest and served to him, CMPD says.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.
