CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — A suspect is facing multiple felony charges after a traffic stop led to a vehicle pursuit.
Joseph Lee Rayburn, 42, was initially observed sitting in a vehicle in a parking lot at a closed business around 12:21 a.m. Thursday. Upon leaving towards Old Shelby Road he was seen committing several traffic offenses that warranted a traffic stop.
Rayburn fled in his vehicle from the traffic stop and deputies began their chase. He was apprehended following the pursuit that lasted 32 minutes before ending inside the City of Newton.
According to a news release, Rayburn has been charged with Felony Fleeing to Allude Arrest, Possession of Methamphetamine, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Resisting a Public Officer, two counts of Failing to Stop at Red Light, Driving Left of Center and Displaying a Fictitious Registration Plate.
“Our deputies, with assistance from Newton Police Department, brought this incident to a safe resolution. Another criminal in possession of drugs and guns has been taken off our streets,” Sheriff Donald Brown of Catawba County said in a news release.
