Family & Friends Remember Murder Victim Ja’Ron McGill on What Would Have Been 30th Birthday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Friends and family gathered on Saturday night to remember a Charlotte teen on what would have been his 30th birthday.

Ja’Ron McGill’s loved ones held a balloon release in Marshall Park in Uptown Charlotte.

After more than 10 years, this cold case murder remains unsolved.

“We celebrate life. We just want our friends and relatives and church members to come together to remember him,” said McGill’s father James.

Investigators say someone shot Ja’Ron at Colby Place and Lane Crest Drive in East Charlotte in August 2009.

“Homicides is something we don’t have to tolerate. We understand death comes to all, but somebody took his life,” James McGill says.

Ja’Ron’s family says he was on the way home from his girlfriend’s house. She was seven months pregnant at the time.

The son Ja’Ron never met, was there standing next to his grandfather on Saturday night.

“Somebody out there knows something and we will never let this go. We will always remember him,” McGill says.
