Child Hit By Vehicle While Waiting On School Bus In Lancaster

LANCASTER, S.C. — A 7-year-old student from Heath Springs Elementary School was seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle while she was waiting on her school bus early Friday morning, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The accident happened on Highway 521 near Boyd Faile Road in the Pleasant Hill Community.  Troopers say the child was attempting to cross Highway 521 around 6:30am when she was struck by a Chevy pickup truck.

The driver of the truck, 39-year-old Wendy Adams, stayed on the scene and is cooperating with authorities, according to Troopers.

Officials with the Lancaster County School District say the child was taken to a Charlotte hospital and is being treated for serious injuries.  Additional counselors have been sent to Heath Springs Elementary School, according to the school district.
