Suspect Charged For North Charlotte Homicide

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — CMPD has charged a suspect for a homicide that took place Friday afternoon in north Charlotte.

The call of service for an assault with a deadly weapon came in around 3:55 p.m. to Azalea Hills Drive off of West Mallard Creek Church Road.

When officers arrived they found a man with a gunshot wound in front of a residence. The victim was transported to the hospital and later pronounced deceased.

According to a news release, the victim has been identified as 30-year-old Nathaniel Raul Newberry.

CMPD has charged 27-year-old Tyquis Jenkins for the murder, according to a news release. Officers first made contact with the suspect upon arriving to the scene of the homicide.

Jenkins was then interviewed and after conclusive information he was arrested. It has also been determined that Jenkins and Newberry knew each other prior to the incident.

This is an ongoing, active investigation.
