CMPD Says No Charges Filed In East Charlotte Homicide

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department say they are investigating a domestic related homicide in east Charlotte.

Officers were called to an assault call on Delta Lake Drive near W.T. Harris Boulevard just after 1pm on March 15th.  Upon arrival, they determined that two family members had been involved in a fight, according to a news release.

A short time later, police say the victim, Sylvester Coswell, was transported to Atrium Health after complaining about a headache.  He then became unresponsive, according to CMPD.

Police say Coswell died from his injuries on March 16th.  On March 17th, the Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the case as a homicide.  Detectives say they spoke with everyone present during the altercation and determined they will not file charges in the case.

The case has now been handed over to the District Attorney’s Office for review, according to a news release.
