CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The CMS Foundation announces its “Connect For Tech” campaign where they will raise funds to provide internet services for students without home access during the COVID-19 crisis.
The CMS Foundation says that more than 16,000 students in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools do not have access to the internet at home, and that they need to raise $3.2 million to provide 12 months of internet service for every household with a CMS student that receives a device.
The CMS Foundation released a statement saying, “The pandemic creates an urgency in our community to ensure that every student, regardless of economic circumstance, has access to education this school year.”
When schools closed back in March, the CMS Foundation raised over one million to purchase 6,000 mobile hotspots for students, but thousands of CMS students still lack access to the internet at home, according to a news release.
The CMS foundation says they are asking our community to donate to the campaign to ensure students have access to critical learning resources amidst the pandemic.
“Every contribution makes a difference. A gift of $200 covers the cost of one year of internet service for a household with one or more CMS students in need of this support,” says the CMS Foundation.
The CMS Foundation says anyone can donate here, text “GIVETECH” to 44-321, or send a contribution to 4421 Stuart Andrew Boulevard, Suite 100, Charlotte, NC 28217.
