The Latest (8/25/20):
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say a 28-year-old man was arrested Monday morning after he was seen jumping over a four-foot fence outside of the Charlotte Convention Center and unlawfully entered the security area near the RNC.
The suspect, identified as Andrew Haire, was observed jumping the fence near the area of East Stonewall Street and South Brevard Street. The fence was a pre-existing to prohibit access to the City of Charlotte’s light rail system, which was closed to the public for access due to the RNC events.
Haire was quickly apprehended by officers and has since been charged with first degree trespass and resist/delay/obstruct a law enforcement officer, CMPD says. Investigators do not believe Haire’s intent was to interfere with the RNC.
