Heat Continues, Strong Storms Saturday
Expect highs to remain in the 80s and 90s before another cooldown arrives for the weekend.
After a remarkable cooling trend over the better part of the past two weeks, we finally topped out in the 90s for the first time in 12 days yesterday in the Queen City. The hot highs should keep on rolling through the end of the workweek, despite the increased cloud coverage, but big changes are coming to the forecast by the first half of the weekend. Hurricane Laura made history last night as the strongest storm to make landfall in Louisiana since 1856. While we certainly won’t see impacts nearly as bad as those felt in the Bayou State, we could be in for a rough couple of hours Saturday morning and afternoon. A strong front will sweep up the remnants of Laura and sweep it eastward into the Carolinas, propping up storm chances and opening the door to severe weather. For now, the big threats appear to be driving wind and heavy rain, but the spin-up tornado potential may be there, as well. Stay tuned to WCCB Charlotte for the latest.
