Construction Complete On New Green CMPD Hickory Grove Division Station
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Construction is complete on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Hickory Grove Division Station on Albemarle Road, according to a news release.
CMPD officials says the new-greener facility is around 13,300 square feet with a 1,000 square foot storage garage.
“This building provides the Hickory Grove Division a more collaborative presence in the community,” said Hickory Grove Division Captain David Harris. “The resources, technology and equipment will empower staff to effectively deliver relevant information to officers and community members.”
CMPD officials say the new station will save 75 percent in energy costs, which will benefit the city, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The CMPD Hickory Grove Division Station has six parking spaces for green vehicles, with six extra spaces with electric vehicle chargers, and is the first station to use a parking canopy with solar panels as well as solar powered light poles in the visitor parking lot, according to a news release.
Officials say the new facility follows the Facilities Strategic Plan, adopted in February 2010, by moving from leased division offices to City-owned stations.
The facility cost $7.8 million to build, and CMPD partnered with Little Diversified Architectural Consulting, AME Engineers and MV Momentum to build it.
