Hornets Legend Muggsy Bogues Spends Labor Day Giving Back to Homeless
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The pandemic has led to difficult times for many in the Charlotte area.
Hornets legend Muggsy Bogues is lending a hand to homeless families, providing meals and gift cards through his foundation, in what he’s calling a “labor of love.”
“What we’re trying to do, we’re trying to be a pillar of these families, to help them,” Bogues says.
The Muggsy Bogues Family Foundation partnered with several local non-profits on Labor Day to help homeless families.
“My wife, who provided hot meals for the families. We provided some kits that’s going to go along with the boxes,” Bogues says.
Grocery and gas gift cards, and books for kids were also included.
“We’re just so thankful to be here today and that’s why we’re out here and calling it our ‘labor of love,'” he says.
The families in need were identified by Pineville Neighbors Place.
“We’re seeing high needs for financial assistance and for food, particularly during the pandemic,” says director Jane Shutt.
She says the items come as a blessing for those struggling right now.
“This makes a huge difference in their lives. They’re going to be able to get food, which means that frees up some money to maybe pay a bill, put gas in their car,” Shutt says.
