Man Charged In Fatal Hit And Run In Southwest Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police say they have charged a man for a fatal hit and run that happened on Sunday, September 6th just before 4:30pm on E. Arrowood Road.

When officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department arrived on the scene, they located a red 2001 Nissan Xterra and a silver 2008 Mercury Sable, both with heavy front-end damage, according to a news release.

The driver of the Mercury, Robert Jordan, was initially transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries but police say Jordan died on September 7th from the injuries he sustained in the crash.

The driver of the Nissan, Wilson Romero-Miranda, reportedly left the scene of the crash before police arrived.  Detectives say Romero-Miranda went to a family member’s residence after the vehicle collision and had a family member take him to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries from the wreck.

Police say the preliminary investigation indicates that the Mercury was traveling east on E. Arrowood Road while the Nissan was traveling west on E. Arrowood Road.  Detectives say the Nissan crossed the double yellow line and collided head-on with the Mercury.  Police say Jordan was not wearing a seatbelt but Romero-Miranda was wearing his.

Warrants were obtained for Romero-Miranda for felony hit and run, felony death by vehicle, and reckless driving.  Police say the warrants will be served upon his release from the hospital.

Police are asking any witnesses to contact Detective Mercedes at 704-432-2169 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
