Will Healy is used to being underestimated.

“We’re 21 point underdogs.” Charlotte’s head football coach says, “I’ve been an underdog my whole life. I’m excited about the opportunity and can’t wait to get it kicked off.”

Healy and Niner Nation won’t have to wait much longer, kickoff is just a few days away.

This Saturday, Charlotte will head ‘up the mountain’ for its season opener against Appalachian State. While the Niners might be double-digit underdogs, “heart” isn’t measured in a spreadsheet stat.

After an off-season of uncertainty, Healy and the 49ers know that they’re fortunate to be playing football this fall as several conferences have canceled sports due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 49ers plan on making the most of this season, starting this Saturday in Boone.

And yes, “Club LIT” still travels. Masks are mandatory. Shirts… not so much.

The Charlotte 49ers kick off their season opener at Appalachian State this Saturday at noon on ESPN2.
