Deputies Charge A Man For A Home Shooting In Newton, N.C.

NEWTON, N.C. — Detectives say Jernico Linder, 24, broke into a house on McDaniels Circle in Newton, and shot at another man as he fled his own home around 11 p.m. on September 7th.

Investigators say Linder turned himself in on Monday, September 8th, and was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, felony first degree burglary, and felony discharge of a weapon in an occupied home.

Linder broke into 25-year-old Markell Caldwell’s home and shot him, and his neighbor’s house, as Caldwell ran away, according to a news release.

Deputies say Caldwell was taken to Catawba Valley Medical Center by a friend where he was treated for his gun shot wound.

The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office is holding Linder under a $20,000 bond for his charges, according to a news release.
