CHARLOTTE, N.C. — United Council For Change (UCFC) will hold a Sit-In on Catherine-Simmons Avenue on September 12th at 6 p.m. to address community issues, according to a news release.
The Sit-In will highlight the real needs of the community in order to make sustainable changes to reduce crime and improve the area, according to a news release.
Community officials say Catherine-Simmons is considered Charlotte’s deadliest street, and it accounts for eight percent of the city’s violent crimes.
Issues:
- Guns, drugs, and violence.
- No City/County representation.
- No landlord accountability
- Not enough quality businesses.
- Not enough community police visibility.
The Ask:
- Landlords to be held accountable to city code enforcement.
- Hire more police officers that look like the community in which they serve.
- Review and adopt new public nuisance law enforcement initiatives.
- City officials need to talk to community residents to address the real issues and find solutions.
