KERSHAW, S.C. — Troopers say a mother and her son died, and two other children were hurt, after an accident on Highway 341 on Saturday, September 12th.
The two children injured riding in the back of 2002 Ford Explorer were air lifted to Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina to be treated for their injuries, according to a news release.
Troopers say the mother, 30-year-old Heather Martin, was driving south on Highway 341 near Monarch Place when she ran off the road to the right at 3:25 p.m.
The Ford hit an embankment, overturned, and crashed into a utility pole and tree off the side of the road killing Martin and her 3-year-old son at the scene, according to a news release.
Troopers say Martin and her son were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the fatal crash.
