CONNELLY SPRINGS, N.C. — Deputies say equipment items were stolen from Israel Chapel AME, and the church was spray painted with graffiti after being broken into.
On September 14th deputies were sent to Israel Chapel AME, after a church member noticed the deadbolt was unlocked and the church has been vandalized, according to a news release.
Detectives say it appears a fire extinguisher was set off inside the church and the alter was spray painted with graffiti.
Property was thrown around the inside of the church, and the suspects left footprints in the dry chemical extinguisher residue after walking on top of pews, according to a news release.
A church member says services have not been held at the chapel since March of 2020, and was last checked for security purposes on June 7th.
Detectives say the investigation is ongoing, and anyone with more information is asked to call Morganton/Burke Crime Stoppers at 828-437-3333.
