CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Carolina Panthers’ running back Christian McCaffrey is expected to be sidelined for “multiple weeks” with the ankle injury he suffered Sunday while playing against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a report says.
ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported Monday morning on Twitter that the injury would remove the running back from the starting lineup for weeks.
Panthers’ Head Coach Matt Rhule confirmed that McCaffrey suffered a high ankle sprain.
“I hate it for him, nobody wants to be out there more than Christian does,” Rhule said.
According to reports, McCaffrey was injured in the game with only 13:30 remaining in the game before Carolina experienced a 31-17 loss.
Before the injury McCaffrey had 18 rushes for 59 yards, two touchdowns and four catches which happened during a seven-yard touchdown run. After the touchdown, McCaffrey walked off the field with a limp and did not return.
