Chargers Team Doctor Punctures Quarterback Tyrod Taylor’s Lung Before Game
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Los Angeles Chargers QB, Tyrod Taylor will miss a second straight game due to a bizarre injury.
Taylor missed week 2 because a team doctor accidentally punctured his lung. The doctor was giving him a pregame injection in his ribs for pain.
The Chargers don’t have a great history when it comes to team doctors.
David Chao was the Chargers team doctor from 1997 to 2013. During that time the California State Medical Board fined Chao for misconduct in 2002 and issued a public reprimand against him in June 2012 for failing to disclose a drunken-driving conviction.
The Board also reached a settlement with Chao following the death of Junior Seau. The board said Chao failed to exercise proper caution in the extended use of Ambien with a patient showing signs of depression and suicidal thoughts.
The former NFL physician has a history of malpractice complaints from patients. Three of those patients successfully sued him for awards that totaled $8.2 million.
