Fully Tattooed Teacher Gets Dismissed From Job Teaching Kindergartners
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A tattooed French school teacher is not allowed to teach kindergartners anymore because his tattoos scare the children. 35-year-old Sylvain Helaine has been teaching kindergarten since last year, until a few months ago, when a student, who he did not teach, said he had a nightmare about him.
After that, a spokesperson for the local education authority said they came to an agreement with Helaine that he could only teach students six or older, since students under that age “could be frightened by his appearance.”
Helaine says, “I think the decision they took was quite sad because they never tried to stand behind me. They immediately went the parents’ way. All of my pupils, and all of my students and their parents, were always cool with me because basically they knew me. As soon as you talk to me, you realize I’m a proper teacher, that I’m a regular guy.”
Our question of the night: are tattoos still taboo?
