Deputies Investigate A Fatal Single Vehicle Collision In Southwest Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — CMPD detectives say 21-year-old Arkon Stewart died after crashing his 2009 Toyota Scion coupe into a tree off the side of the roadway.

Officers responded to the fatal crash on October 9th around 6 a.m. on Sledge Street where medics pronounced Stewart dead at the scene, according to a news release.

Detectives say Stewart was driving west on Sledge Road when he lost control of his vehicle and ran off the road to the left hitting a tree.

Police say someone saw the vehicle wrapped around the tree and called 9-1-1, but that there are no known witnesses to the crash.

Investigators say speeding appears to be a factor in the incident, and the investigation remains active so anyone with more information should call Detective Pressley at 704-432-2169 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
