SLED: Individual Shot During Confrontation With Officers

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Agents with South Carolina Law Enforcement say an individual was shot when Horry County Police conducted a welfare check.

Officers say the individual presented a firearm at officers during the welfare check, and was taken to a local hospital for their injuries.

No other injuries occurred during the welfare check, according to a news release.

SLED officials say this is an ongoing investigation, and no other information is available at this time.

This Horry County incident is the 39th officer involved shooting in South Carolina this year, and the second involving the Horry County Police Department, according to a news release.
